BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and in 22 U.S. cities, the IRC restores safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home. SCOPE OF WORK: The Web Communications Intern will work closely with colleagues in the External Relations and International Programs departments to ensure consistent, consumer-friendly updates about the IRC’s work around the world are delivered to the IRC’s Web audience. The position reports to the Web Director. RESPONSIBILITIES: Gather updates from IRC country programs; write and update country program descriptions on the IRC Web site Gather photos from each country program; select photos and write photo captions for photo essays and slideshows. Assist with writing and editing other content for the IRC Web site as needed Contribute to Web content brainstorming and help maintain Web content calendar Post updates to the IRC Web site with user-friendly Web content management tool (Drupal and basic HTML experience preferred, but not required)
