Roles and Responsibilities of Director of Finance/Administration
Financial Management
• Provide the management and organization that insures the best possible use of School resources that supports the School\'s chief aims and goals.
• Prepare the operating budget in consultation with the Head, for consideration by the Budget and Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.
• Monitor the School\'s budget and report regularly to the Head, Treasurer and Budget and Finance committee.
• Provide organization and management for billing, purchasing, accounting, cash management and, in general, provide sound business practices.
• Liaison between audit committee, audit/accounting firm and business office staff.
• Administer the allocation and distribution of flexible tuition.
Head of School and Board of Trustees
• Provide expertise, knowledge, analysis, research, and understanding in all areas related to School financial, administrative and physical plant matters.
• Anticipate financial problems and opportunities to strengthen the School\'s programs, and to apprise the Head and Budget and Finance committee of such problems and opportunities.
• Assist the Head and Board in Long Range planning. Review and revise the Long Range Plan as necessary.
• Attend professional meetings and workshops to keep informed of independent School issues and trends.
• Serves as staff for Budget and Finance Committee, Investment Committee, Campus Site Committees; participates in all other committees germane to the school’s current and long-range activities.
Personnel Management
• Provide the research, analysis and understanding of School compensation package.
• Supervise the administration and coordination of the benefits package, ensuring faculty and staff receive information and support in the area of fringe benefits.
• Provide direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Finance and Administration and the HR Manager.
Facilities Management
• Participate actively in design and construction of new or renovated facilities.
• Work with Head of School and Campus Heads to ensure safe, secure, attractive buildings and grounds.
Risk Management
• Arrange insurance coverage for plant, equipment and liability.
• Adopt a workers compensation and unemployment compensation package within the legal requirements imposed by state regulations.
• Adopt liability coverage for Board of Trustees.
Government regulations
• Have basic knowledge of contract law and government regulations as they pertain to the School.
• Ensure School compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations.
• Recommend best practices and policies and procedures related to compliance.
Auxiliary programs
• Monitor the after-school and summer programs. Assist Program Directors when necessary.
