Executive Director STAND UP STAND UP, an exciting new education non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring access to a high quality education for all of Sacramento’s students, seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as its founding Executive Director. The Executive Director will work closely with STAND UP Founder and Chairman of the Board, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, his staff, local school district and government officials, community leaders, and external partners, to achieve STAND UP’s vision, which rests on five key pillars for educational excellence: 1. Accountability 2. School choice 3. Human capital 4. Parental involvement 5. Resource development The Executive Director will act as the Chief Executive Officer for the organization and is responsible for setting the vision and direction, organizational management, fundraising, and external relations. Strong candidates will be passionate about helping Sacramento become an example of educational excellence, and will have a deep sense of innovation, strong communications skills, and the ability to effectively advocate for STAND UP’s vision in a complex and political environment. This is a full-time, exempt position located in Sacramento, CA. Responsibilities: Specifically, the Executive Director’s responsibilities include: Fundraising & Resource Development • Building on a solid funding base and a high degree of interest from supporters, develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy that will allow STAND UP to support national partners such as Teach for America, City Year, and The New Teacher Projects and implement a range of innovative programs across Sacramento’s schools • Oversee all fundraising activities, including private and public funding • Develop formal partnerships with departments with the City of Sacramento as a means to leverage fund and resources External Relations • Initiate and nurture productive relationships with a variety of constituencies at the local, state, and national levels • Effectively and persuasively present STAND UP’s vision and mission to various stakeholder groups • Engage local school district leadership • Maintain strong network of leaders of charter management organizations • Liaise with local and state government representatives and national regulatory agencies Vision & Strategic Planning • Set the vision and direction for STAND UP based on the initiatives provided by the Board of Directors • Formulate policies and procedures for operations • Construct optimal organizational structure for maximum efficiency Organizational Development & Financial Management • Provide overall leadership and operation of the organization while executing on the Board’s vision and mission for the organization • Supervise the Deputy Director and any subsequent personnel • Oversee all accounting functions, including those necessary for budget development and execution, financial analysis, tax reporting, and administration of benefits and insurance • Supervise the hiring and firing of staff and selecting, training, and developing employees • Manage building contracts, facilities planning, maintenance, and custodial operations • Assist in the planning and implementation of information technology (IT) infrastructure
