REPORTS TO: Campus Operations Manager, Plant Manager, and School Leader(s) DUTY SCHEDULE: 12 Months, including some school holidays and occasional weekend or evening commitments ROLE OVERVIEW: The Custodian is responsible for performing housekeeping, general cleaning, and other assigned tasks as required to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the school building and grounds. This position furthers the mission of KIPP by providing a clean and safe learning environment for students and faculty. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: The Custodian will: Open facilities for use by the school Unlock doors, disable alarm system, ensure that the air conditioning/heater turns on, turn on lights, perform a quick inspection Maintain a safe working environment for KIPP Houston students and faculty Learn building systems such as the fire alarm, burglar, and electrical breaker systems Perform general cleaning duties Illustrative duties include sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning entrance windows, cleaning and restocking all student and faculty restrooms, cleaning drinking fountains and white boards, and removing trash Pick up trash on school grounds, around flower beds, and in the parking lot Perform small handyman duties Replace light bulbs, hang cork boards, paint, carpentry work, etc. Help deliver large packages from the reception area to the appropriate faculty member Help maintain the campus vehicle fleet Move and rearrange furniture Set up and break down cafeteria tables before and after breakfast and lunch Help set up for special events or other school use Formally check-in weekly with Supervisor(s) and School Leader(s) Inspect the service level from the evening cleaning crew on a daily basis; Report issues to correct items that were not appropriately done Inform the Supervisor when supplies need to be ordered, keeping a small inventory stock to help prevent waste or careless use Inform the Supervisor and School Leader(s) of facility issues and equipment failures Respond to emergencies 24/7 with a sense of urgency Feel a sense of pride and facility ownership Bring a positive, can-do, and reassuring attitude every day, building trust with School Leaders, Office Managers, and other faculty Perform other job-related duties as assigned and requested by the Supervisor or School Leader QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Knowledge: Basic reading and writing; plus 1-3 years of housekeeping/janitorial experience, preferably in a school setting Skills: Driven by a determination to make the campus clean Extreme flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate multiple, changing priorities Good manual dexterity Detail-oriented and self-directed Ability to manage several tasks at once Ability to identify problems and proactively find solutions Commitment to tasks at hand Strong ethics and a determination to make the campus operate safely, efficiently, and effectively Must be customer focused Resourceful, thrifty attitude Willingness to learn Ability to lift and carry 20-50 lbs Proven written and verbal communication skills English fluency is required; Spanish is a plusPožiadavky na zamestnanca
