Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc. (www.monkeyhelpers.org) is a 501(c )3 non-profit organization that breeds, raises and trains capuchin monkeys as service animals for people living with paralysis due to spinal cord injury and mobility limiting disease. Established in 1979, Helping Hands provides service animals and lifetime support of each placement free of charge to recipients across the country. Helping Hands\' Board Governance and Nominating Committee is actively seeking candidates for positions on several volunteer committees including the Board of Directors, Advisory Committees, and other Task Force Committees (events, special projects, etc.). Helping Hands has a working board, and each board member is asked to contribute approximately 2-4 hours per month via attendance in person at bi-monthly board meetings and participation on a board committee (approximately 1 meeting per month.) In addition, board members are expected to support the organization financially, and to utilize their personal and professional contacts to expand the organization’s donor mailing lists. Helping Hands hopes to attract new board members and volunteer committee members who have prior experience in serving a non-profit or community organization, along with knowledge and skills in the areas we wish to strengthen. Our goal is to build a small pool of qualified candidates who may be asked to join the board after a successful “getting-to-know-each other” period.
