Position Overview Jumpstart and its regional offices are poised for exciting and aggressive growth. The Director of Development will deepen Jumpstart’s impact and broaden its regional scope by driving success in fundraising. S/he will leverage new and existing partnerships to achieve these ambitious goals and thus bring Jumpstart closer to the day when every child enters school prepared to succeed. This person will be part of a critical leadership network that is driving success in the Jumpstart program nationally. This regional position is based out of Jumpstart’s San Francisco office. The Director of Development is a senior-level regional management position with primary responsibility for managing fundraising activities for Jumpstart’s Western Region, currently raising over $2 million annually from individual, corporate, government, and foundation donors. Managing full-time staff members and full-time AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteers, the Director of Development will report to the Executive Director (ED), with whom s/he will work closely on all fundraising activities. The Director of Development will also partner with members of the local regional advisory board, the Regional staff team, as well as Development staff across Jumpstart’s national network to meet regional and national revenue goals. Specific Responsibilities 1. Fundraising and Development: • Lead the creation of a regional fundraising strategy and manage regional fundraising goals. • Working in close partnership with the Executive Director, oversee all aspects of revenue plan execution, including stewardship and growth of individual, corporate, government, and foundation donors. • Work with the Executive Director and national development staff to research, identify, and cultivate new foundation, individual, government and corporate funders. Participate in in-person cultivation and solicitation meetings with Executive Director and Regional Board members. • Develop and implement effective appeals (both written and online); broaden Jumpstart’s pool of individual donors. • Develop and manage new and existing foundation, corporate and government relationships; write effective and successful grant proposals and ensure exceptional and timely grant reporting and communications. • Promote Jumpstart and support fundraising objectives through the effective design and coordination of major special events. 2. Partnerships and Public Relations • Engage local supporters in initiatives that will gain media attention, enhance public relations, and/or build Jumpstart’s brand. • Ensure strong organizational representation in relevant local forums in order to increase visibility. 3. National Network Responsibilities • Participate in regional and national development staff meetings to share best practices and current challenges and to assist in setting overall development strategy. • Collaborate and network with other directors regularly.
