The Executive Director will be responsible for providing the overall leadership necessary for Madison Public Library Foundation to achieve its mission. The Executive Director will focus on the development and execution of a comprehensive fund development plan to support the ongoing operational and capital needs of the Foundation. Additionally, the Executive Director, under the guidance and direction of the Board, will implement the strategic goals and objectives of Madison Public Library Foundation in order to help the organization achieve its short and long term goals. The Executive Director’s responsibilities include the following: • Guides and supports the Board of Directors in developing and implementing short and long-term organizational goals and strategic plans; developing and implementing policies, procedures, budgets and programs that fulfill the mission of Madison Public Library Foundation. • Acts as chief spokesperson for Madison Public Library Foundation and ensures that MPLF is consistently presented in a strong, positive manner. • Oversees fund development planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach donors/funders, and overseeing fundraising records and documentation. Works with the Board and community in raising the resources to permit a thorough renovation of the current central library’s physical plant. Develops objective goals and tactical plans to execute fundraising strategies. • Develops, nurtures, organizes, and grows the Madison Public Library Foundation’s network of committed donors. • Collaborates with and supports the Board of Directors in the development of a well functioning and engaged Board. Trains, motivates, and involves all members in meeting the goals of the organization and recruits additional Board members, if needed, to enhance the capabilities of the Board. • Implements all policies and directives as set forth by the Board, including the attendance at all Board meetings. Responsible for regular communication and feedback with the Board; proactive in clarifying and providing sufficient and up to date information that will assist the Board in the decision-making process. • Oversees the financial operations of Madison Public Library Foundation including: creating annual budgets in collaboration with Board, monitoring actual financial performance relative to budgets, monitoring cash flows, and providing required reports to the Board and outside agencies. • Develops and maintains working relationships with Madison Public Library staff, city officials and groups related to the promotion of Madison Public Library Foundation. • Promotes an organizational culture that fosters passion for the mission, cooperation, open and frequent communication, teamwork, and a common organizational vision. • Oversees staffing activities of the organization, including recruiting, selecting, training, supervising, and evaluation of both paid and volunteer staff. • Ensures compliance with all not-for-profit regulations.
