The Pew Health Group (PHG) seeks to improve the health and well being of all Americans. Based on research and critical analysis, the program advocates policies that reduce unacceptable health risks, focusing on areas that include food, medical and consumer financial product safety. Pew’s Financial Security Portfolio is part of the Pew Health Group. In a policy environment that is often polarized, we seek consensus for fundamental, positive change. We would also seek to advance legislation that provides incentives to develop financial products that enable more consumers to fully utilize electronic funds transfer and current technology, such as direct deposit. The director, Safe Checking for the Electronic Age will develop and implement the project; design and oversee research, data collection and analysis; recruit and supervise other project staff and consultants; supervise, edit and write reports and other presentations; oversee outreach and public communication efforts regarding the project’s work; and monitor budgets.
