The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership of the organization and for working with the Board of Governors in defining and articulating its vision and mission. The individual will be bold and creative enhancing the position of the organization as one of the preeminent colonial history museums in the country and its status among the leading cultural facilities in Concord.   Working directly with the Board of Governors, the Executive Director will have responsibility for creating and implementing the organization’s strategic goals, the development and administration of its existing and future program activities, the direction of the day-to-day administrative functions, and the responsibility for insuring that senior management and staff are in place to meet future needs. The Director will work with staff to increase revenue to meet the financial needs of the organization going forward. Much of the Executive Director’s energy will be spent enhancing and building connections with a wide variety of constituents to strengthen the museum’s presence and exposure in the community. Strategic alliances with community-based organizations, industry, political leaders, and individuals will be essential to maintain and enhance the profile and effectiveness of the organization through shared information and resources. The continuation of the organization as one that is open and inclusive and representative of the Concord community is essential. Specific Responsibilities: Works with the Board of Governors to develop long range plans to fulfill the Museum’s mission and ensure its financial stability and guide its growth. The Executive Director will work and communicate closely with the Board so that all parties are cognizant of all pertinent operating issues, problems or potential problems and any meaningful deviations from plan. The Executive Director serves on the Board of Governors as a voting member and is a member of all committees of the Board. Establishes and maintains effective organizational structure for managing and operating the Museum. Ensures the highest standards of scholarship and curatorial excellence. Oversees the management of the Museum’s collection and its preservation including the acquisition of appropriate objects to enhance the Museum’s permanent collection, and making recommendations to the Collections Committee and Board of Governors. Oversees and promotes the development of a strong network of community support including volunteers, local businesses, business leaders and other local organizations. Work closely with the Guild Of Volunteers in enhancing community relations. Oversees all educational activities including research, exhibition and program development. Oversees the development and implementation of marketing and promotion strategies to enhance the institution’s image, audience and support base. Works with the Director of Development in formulating and implementing fundraising strategies for annual, capital and endowment support. Works with the Board of Governors and the Trustees to foster their active participation to maximize institutional results. Directs the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, submitting budgets to the Board of Governors for final approval. Administers approved budgets and oversees the development of financial control systems to ensure the Museum’s fiscal soundness and program integrity. Represents the Museum to its constituencies, other cultural institutions and professional organizations to enhance the organization’s public image, expanding interest and support from these constituencies to ensure that the Museum and Board of Governors stays abreast of new trends and dynamics in museum management.
