Sr. Scientist, Research Key Responsibilities: Designs, develops and applies scientific and laboratory methods to basic or applied research supporting product development. Applies moderate business and product knowledge to leverage technological innovations for short and long term business advantage. May lead projects, manage a small technical/scientific group, or participate, as an expert advisor/individual contributor, on projects and research studies that have short or long term impact. Applies expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts. Works on assignments that may be very large scope, technically diverse, complex, or have critical, long term impact. Works on problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors; exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Work typically reflects in-depth knowledge of 1-2 sub-specialty areas, and moderate understanding of 1-2 related disciplines. Balances constraints and opportunities of 1-3 adjacent technical disciplines with primary area. May oversee and/or manage technical activities of junior or project staff – however primary role and the majority of time is spent working as an individual contributor, or technical project leader. Provides technical leadership to others in and outside the division and may manage a small group of 2-5 Research Associates, Level 1-2 Scientists, or support staff performing research in 1-2 related technical specialty areas; management includes administrative responsibility for performance reviews, training, development, coaching, and talent management, effective hire/fire recommendation, technical assignment, quality, and ensuring compliance with corporate and divisional policies and procedures. Displays a practical mindset and translates business needs to focus research activities and opportunities on key areas of need for innovation and invention; demonstrates technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, independent thought, and understanding of business goals and operational needs. Decisions, priorities, and actions display sound judgment in the R&D product development environment; includes focus on clear problem definition, identification and focus on value-creating milestones and deliverables, and pragmatic problem solving with an understanding of real-world and adjacent constraints, creative invention, laboratory testing, and robust Applies a seasoned understanding of SOP’s and defined goals to independently determine practical and tactical approaches for the timely creation and coordination of intellectual capital. Demonstrates proper interpretation and knowledge of policies and procedures, including trade secret, patent and regulatory plans, and processes. With limited management direction, sets technical priorities to act or guide others toward the proper balance of effort vs. timeliness, and technical improvements and innovations with practical business constraints. Critically reviews own work and that of others with regard to statistical significance, repeatability, and the use of experimental controls; exhibits deep understanding of statistical significance, repeatability, and the use of experimental controls. Keeps abreast of technical developments in own and related fields. Participates in activities outside the company to develop a reputation as an emerging leader in the field with sustained performance and accomplishment. May participate in scientific conferences and contribute to scientific journals. Skilled at presenting to a variety of audiences; adapts communications and presentations to a variety of audiences; Provides frequent written, visual, or oral presentations and status updates; May represent research effort to upper management. Applies good knowledge of patent landscape; may track latest developments across core sciences and markets; participates in patent process. Applies understanding of basic concepts, terms, and strategies in patent prosecution. Education and Experience Requirements: PhD in such basic science areas as: immunology, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, optical physics, material science, or a related engineering field such as: chemical or biomedical engineering, or an advanced degree and equivalent combination of training and experience. A minimum of 5+ years related experience is required; Post doctoral experience is preferred. Experience with medical device and diagnostic research and development is preferred. Demonstrated technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and ability to apply business fundamentals and independent thought is necessary. Multi-disciplinary scientific and/or engineering and project management or management experience is preferred. Strong laboratory and oral, written, and visual communication skills are required. Intermediate to advanced level mastery of both business/technical applications is necessary. Experience with medical device development under FDA Quality Systems Regulations, CE Marking, and ISO Quality Systems or related regulatory requirements are desirable.Požiadavky na zamestnanca
