Sr. Product Quality Engineer (San Carlos, CA) This position will be responsible for working closely with product development and production teams to support the proactive development of high quality battery systems and the development and implementation of process control plans. In addition, the reactive element of this position will include tracking and management of corrective actions for issues identified in test, production and field performance. Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing and suppliers across a wide variety of issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside. • Lead development and implementation of TS-16949 compliant quality system for the Battery design and production team. • Serve as lead quality representative for our customer(s) • Leading the development of FMEAs (Design & Process) for development teams to identify critical risks to be addressed. • Provide guidance and design support to development teams to achieve UL, CSA, and other regulatory requirements specified for the design. • Facilitate the definition of critical features for the product design to drive thorough control plans to be developed for these features. • Participate in design reviews to assure product subsystem quality, manufacturability, inspectability and reliability considerations have been adequately addressed. • Design effective experiments through DOE or other methods to support design teams in investigation of various alternatives or in design validation testing. • Develop quality standards and product quality plans to assure products will meet expectations of our target customers. • Support process capability analyses to investigate the ability of suppliers and production processes to meet defined specifications and quality standards. • Manage and facilitate the root cause & corrective actions system through tracking and validation of issues and support in root cause analysis through facilitating brainstorming, use of fishbone diagrams, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, etc. • Lead / facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified. Requirements: • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or other technical discipline. o BS or MS in Electrical Engineering is preferred • A minimum of 8 years of experience with at least 3 years in a Quality Engineering role. • Experience working with complex electro-mechanical systems. • Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc. o Minitab, JMP or other statistical software capabilities are preferred. o Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred. • PPAP / APQP process knowledge and experience. • Experience with various reliability test techniques including HALT and HASS testing. • Experience with broad variety of measurement and inspection techniques. • Must be very comfortable with common MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills. • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (5% to 10%).
